NCLB - What’s New in 2007-2008? • Adequate Yearly Progress – Participation Rates (NDE calculates) • Two ways • “Old” way is the same (doesn’t count any more) • “New” way - All students who have been assessed at any time on any standards minus students not assessed (parental waivers, out of level or modified)

NCLB - What’s New in 2007-2008? • New Data Displays • STARS data (all students with any assessment results) • Disaggregated by the NCLB subgroups • Each grade (3-8 and 11) for Reading and Math; each grade span for Science • Percent Proficient by performance level • Percent not-assessed • Compare school to district to state • Four levels of proficiency

Data Conference Opportunity • April 28th, 2008 - Kearney • Partnership with ESU, NSEA, NCSA, NASB, NDE • Districts will have to insure that they have policies and procedures in place to assure data quality in 2008-09 • Will be included in the Consolidated Program Review • Goal is to train a data coordinator in each agency

  12. Nebraska-led Peer Review of STARS • Reporting Results from Multiple Assessments • Districts/consortiums need a plan with consistently applied business rules • Form A or B? (both are technically sound) • Weighted? • Combined? • All students in district or consortium have fair, equitable reporting – using same plan • Cannot “pick” certain assessments for some and different results for others • Adaptive test results cannot be used for standards (Tests that adjust to grade level performance of student) • Brush Up Sessions - PM

Consolidated Data Collection (CDC) • Access via the Portal---activation codes necessary • School and district information formerly collected on input screen now in CDC • Assessment component opens April 15th and closes on June 30th • Data uploaded from previous year for all reports except: • Standardized scores • Mobility • ELL alternative method of assessment • Districts/buildings may make necessary changes to uploaded data • Instruction manual published before April 15th
