  3. Developing the design SPEEDSTEP ProSketch/ open background. Trace around the outlines in contrasting colour. Delete background to leave outline.

  4. ProPainter : add colour then send to sublimation printer.

  5. BACK VIEW: ProSketch: delete lines and put in new ones to make up back view Pro Painter: Add colour but remember to flip image before sublimation printing

  6. STITCHING THE CIRCUIT Take a second print of the front onto a separate piece of fabric. This becomes the middle layer onto which the circuit is stitched. Means all components can be positioned correctly.

  7. CREATING THE CIRCUIT: IDENTIFY THE COMPONENTS PIC or chip. Used to program the outputs. Resistors for LEDs (4) Value is 000 because the LEDs already have some resistance built in. Socket for the program-ming lead to slot into. Resistors for the PIC. Value 103 and 104

  11. SOLDERING THE PIEZO SOUNDER Solder paste on both pads and press on the sounder – doesn’t matter which way round.

  13. STITCHING SCHEMATIC Avoid lines of stitching touching. Watch out for loops in thread. Use scrap fabric to create bridge over stitches if needed

  14. You decide where you want the power supply to be. If the product were to be made up it would be on the back so that the coin cell could be replaced easily. How would your students conceal this? Bridge

  15. MAKING THE SOFT SWITCH Cut hole in centre of foam – make sure you can feel the table when you press on it. Stitch conductive fabric onto foam to cover the hole – do this top and bottom.

  17. Attaching conductive thread to soft switch. Slide needle between the foam and conductive fabric. Come up into conductive fabric about 5mm from edge. Oversew about 4 times to get a good connection between the two. Turn the switch upside down so that the thread is coming off the bottom surface and stitch to either +V on daisypic or GP3. Repeat for the top of the switch, over-sewing the conductive thread 4 times and stitch to either +V on daisypic or GP3.
