This document discusses the essential updates and configurations for Broadcast Service Periodic Messages (BSPM) and Frequency Qualified Physical Channel (F-QPCH) aimed at optimizing Broadcast Multicast and Cell Multicast Services (BCMCS). It highlights the periodicity of BSPM to assist mobile devices in receiving updates effectively. The distinction between Type 1 and Type 2 services is analyzed, focusing on flow changes, notification mechanisms, and latency considerations. Additionally, alternatives for the current notification system are explored for more efficient group paging and messaging strategies.

Services Types • Type 1 Services • “TV channel” like programs • Set of flows in a given sector not expected to change very frequently • Every couple of hours, days, weeks? • When users wants to watch BCMCS flow X, MS will look for BCMC info to determine where/how to watch BCMCS flow X • Think of it as MS originated BCMC • Type 2 Services • Group calls, etc. • Set of flows in a given sector expected to change very frequently • Every few seconds, few minutes? • When BCMCS flow X is added, idle mobiles need to be notified so they can decide to monitor • Think of it as MS terminated BCMC
Rev D Support for Type 1 Services • BSPM is the right message • Periodicity for BSPM needs to be defined to help mobiles • LU-TC-15, QC-TC-107 • Need to define how long MS should wait to receive BSPM once woken up at slot per defined period • MOT-TC-12, LU-TC-10 • No need to notify idle mobiles when BCMCS flows added/removed from BSPM • F-QPCH support not needed • Differential BSPM not critical • Needed only to update mobiles currently watching BCMCS
Rev D Support for Type 2 Services • Currently Differential BSPM being used for Type 2 service • Differential BSPM is essentially a group page mechanism • Differential BSPM needs to be sent more frequently than BSPM periodicity chosen for Type 1 Service due to latency requirements • F-QPCH support very useful • F-QPCH used to notify idle mobiles about differential BSPM being transmitted • Is differential BSPM the right approach for Type 2 services? • Alternatives: • Group Page on F-CCCH • New message on F-BCCH • Is current F-QPCH BI indicator the correct approach? • Alternatives: • BCMC tri-state on mobiles PI indicator (VIA-TC-1) • BCMCS_FLOW_ID hashed F-QPCH slots with BI indicators • BCMCS_FLOW_ID hashed F-QPCH slots with BCMCS_FLOW_ID hashed PI indicators
