  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: Extensibility of different sFCF schemes Date Submitted: [ 11 December 2009 ] Source: [ Michael Bahr ] Company [Siemens AG] Address [ Siemens AG, Corporate Technology, Otto-Hahn-Ring 6, 80200 München, Germany ] Voice:[ ], FAX: [ ], E-Mail:[bahr et siemens dod com, ] Re: [ ] Abstract: The document gives information on the possible proposed representations of MAC frames with a MAC header of 1 octet. Especially, it looks at the question of extensibility for future frame types. Purpose: [ Provide detailed information on the frame type representation of 1-octet MAC headers in order to make an informed decision. ] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. 2. Extensibility of different ‘Short Frame Control Field’ schemes proposed in TG 4e. How to define the frame types and bits of a one-octet MAC header in an extensible manner? M. Bahr (Siemens AG, CT)

  7. S-OR/848-Proposal LLNW/825-Proposal Closer Look at Extensibility M. Bahr (Siemens AG, CT)

  8. first: in Frame Type subfield scope (IEEE 802.15.4-2006, LL, future frame type) then: in Subframe Type subfield frame type (beacon, data, ack, command) The Trade Offs • available bits in short Frame Control vs. extensibility for future real* frame types • bits b0/b1 of FCF always indicate beacon/data/ack/command vs.bits b0/b1 of FCF can belong to arbitrary frame types • sequence of differentiation of frame types (S-OR/848 vs. LLNW/825): • first: • in Frame Type subfield • frame type (beacon, data, ack, command) • then: • in sFCF subfield + Extended Frame Type subfield • scope (IEEE 802.15.4-2006, LL) * real = IEEE 802.15.4-2006 frame types M. Bahr (Siemens AG, CT)
