  2. Agenda • Review of “Six Considerations” • Final five-year enrollment projections • Review of key variables • Likely scenarios and resulting options • Current 4K locations around Kennedy • Review of Kennedy neighborhoods

  3. “Six Considerations” • Bus rides of 45 minutes or less • No more than one move every five years • Grandfathering Grades 4 and 5 • Maximum of 650 per elementary school • Avoid high concentrations of low-income • Walk-ability and neighborhoods

  4. Parents’ Informational Meeting • Next Steps: • Broaden participation in the survey by posting online longer and adding more questions • Share survey results with the La Follette - East attendance area study group, the Board of Education and post on the web • Hold an additional info session for families at Allis Elementary… date TBD

  5. Final Enrollment Projections • Final five-year projections to the Board in November • If Nuestro Mundo moves space is available at Allis • Kennedy remains overcrowded by 60 students • Elvehjem is no longer projected to be overcrowded

  6. Key Variables: • Does Nuestro Mundo move to a new location? • Would open 15 rooms in the Allis building • Maywood school to be reviewed by MMSD and Monona Grove School Board • How much space needed for Allis students? • How many rooms for 4K: • At Allis? • At Kennedy? • How much renovation or room reassignment at Kennedy and/or Allis? • Timing of growth in Kennedy area

  7. If Nuestro Mundo stays at Allis… Renovations/room reassignments at Allis: • Short 28 seats now • Projected to be 7 students over capacity in 2016-17 • #1 – Art room #99 divided into two classrooms with partial wall • #2 – Move PC’s in Computer/REACH room #208 into LMC • Gains 2 rooms with space for about 40 students

  8. Allis floor plan - Basement Green circles = if Nuestro Mundo stays Red circles = if Nuestro Mundo moves

  9. Allis – 1st Floor

  10. Allis – 2nd Floor

  11. If Nuestro Mundo stays at Allis… Renovations/room reassignments at Kennedy: • Short 39 seats now • Projected to be 60 over in 2016-17 • Rooms #102 and #103 could change from split of ⅓-⅔ to 50-50 by moving the wall • Move Room #102 for OT/PT and meeting room to the Kindergarten cubby room • Move Kindergarten cubbies to the hallway • Gains 2 rooms with space for about 40 students • Still projected to be 20 over capacity in five years • Solution only for the immediate future

  12. Kennedy floor plan

  13. If Nuestro Mundo moves… Changes at Allis: • Opens up 15 rooms • 4 rooms needed for Allis specials • 4 rooms for new 4K (about 120 4K students) • Leaves 7 open with space for 140 to 160 students • Would be 73% capacity next year if no additional students move in • No room renovations needed

  14. If Nuestro Mundo moves… Big questions for Kennedy: • Move students to alleviate overcrowding? • Move students to alleviate overcrowding and add space for 4K? • If add 4K, how many rooms? • Renovate/reassign space and not move students to Allis or add 4K? • Resolves overcrowding for only a year or two

  15. Combinations if Nuestro Mundo moves to a new location • Kennedy projected to be over capacity by 60 students in 2016-17 • Renovation gains space for 20 students per room • Adding 4K means finding space for 20 students per 4K room • Likely range is 20 to 60 students in need of space
