  10. What Is Field Education?(SWRK 195 A/B) • A course: 6 units each semester (12 total) • A year-long unpaid internship in a human services agency • A chance to learn social work skills in a real life setting, under the supervision of a professional social worker

  24. Usually, placements are unpaid • Some job-based placements are possible (not typical at undergrad level) • Job Conversion • Job-Related Placement • Pre-approval is required – contact Prof. Lewis or Kelly

  26. Gaining Experience You will be putting into practice everything you learned in all of your social work classes.

  38. COMMON BARRIERS TO ENTERING OR SUCCEEDING IN FIELD • Not having met pre-requisites 2. Not meeting criminal background criteria 3. Missing deadlines, lack of follow-through with the placement process 4. Unprofessional behavior 5. Unrealistic expectations about days and times for field

  39. CAN I FIND/PICK MY OWN PLACEMENT? Sorry, but no. You must be placed at an agency that is pre-approved by the University. You can indicate preferences on your Field Application, but the referral decision will be made by the Field Faculty.
