Japanese Threat • Japan siezed much of China in the 1930s • They took Indochina inSoutheast Asia from France in 1940 and wanted to take other island territory including the Philippines to acquire rubber and oil resources • US attempted economic pressure and froze Japanese assets in American banks, angering the Japanese.

  3. Japanese Aggression • Japan began planning a military attack in response to US economic actions. • 7:55 A.M. on Sunday December 7, 1941 • “A day that will live in infamy” • Japanese warplanes surprise attacked American military base at Pearl Harbor Hawaii. • Pearl Harbor was the worst defeat in United States military history. • United Americans in the war effort against the Japanese and the other axis powers.
