  2. THREE IMPORTANT TIPS APPLY EARLY - scheduleappointment as early as possible - first time studentscan enter the US 30 daysbeforestudiesbegin - student visa can be issuedup to 120 daysbefore

BE PREPARED • Followtheprocedures for visa reguirements • Submit form I-20 (Certificateof Eligibilityfor Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status for Academic and LanguageStudentsor • Submimt Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (M-A) Student Status for VocationalStudents • Submit SEVIS generated Form

  5. All student applicantsmusthave a SEVIS generated I-20 issued by an educationalinstitutionapproved DHS, whichissubmitedduringtheapplicationprocess. Consularofficer will verify I-20 recordthroughthe SEVIS system in order to process student visa application. Unlessotherwiseexempt, applicantmustpay a SEVIS I-901 fee to the DHS for eachindividual program.

WHAT IS SEVIS? • SEVIS (Student and Exchange VisitorInformation System) is an Internet-based system thatmaintainsaccurate and currentinformation on nonimmigrantstudents (F and M visa), exchangevisitors (J visa) and theirdependents (F-2, M-2, and J-2). SEVIS enablesschools and program sponsors to transmitmandatoryinformation to the DHS and DOS throughout a student orexchangevisitor’sstayinthe U.S.

Student VisaF-1 or M-1 Qualifying for a Student Visa Applicantmustdemonstratethattheyproperlymeetrequirementsincluding: • Acceptanceat a school • Possesssufficientfunds to pursuetheproosedcourse of study • Preparation for thecourse of study • Intend to leavethe US upon completion of thecourse of study

  8. F-1 or M-1 • Form I-20 • OnlineNonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, Form DS.-160 • Passport • One photograph • Feereceipt to show payment of the visa applicationfee • SEVIS I-901 feereceipt

All applicantsshould be prepared to provide: • Transcripts and diplomasfrompreviousinstitutionsattended • Scoresfromstandardizedtestsrequired by theeducationalinstitutionssuch as the TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT, etc. • Financial evidencethatshowsyouoryourparentswhoare sponsoring youhassufficientfunds to coveryourtuition and livingexpensesduringthe period of intendedstudy.

Exchange Visitor VisaJ-1 Qualifying for an Exchange Visitor Visa Applicantsmustdemonstratethattheymeetrequirements, includingthefollowing: • They plan to remaininthe U.S. for a temporary, specific period of time; • Evidence of funds to coverexpensesinthe U.S. • Evidence of compellingsocial and economictiesabroad; and otherbindingtieswhich will insuretheir return abroadattheend of thevisit
