  3. Primary Purpose: • To grow teachers to help fill North Carolina classrooms

  4. Primary Focus: • To introduce high school students to the realities of teaching • To inspire students with a passion for being an educator

  5. Bunker Hill and Maiden are the only two Catawba County high schools that have plans to offer this unique program next school year.

  6. Teacher Cadet is offered as a 2 semester course.

  7. Who can take Teacher Cadet? • Rising juniors and seniors • Must be capable of being successful with college prep level work

  8. Application Deadline: • Next Monday, • March 20th

  9. Teacher Cadets will earn… • Five points added to their Teaching Fellows application! • Valuable experience!

  10. What will Teacher Cadets do? • Travel to schools to observe learners at different levels • Become familiar with educational jargon and terminology • Read educational journals and publications • Complete detailed portfolios and other assessments outside of class • Learn lesson planning methods and theories of educational psychology • Learn through role play and hands-on classroom activities

  11. Field Experience • Teacher cadets complete a field experience that involves responsibility for daily lesson plans similar to a mini-student teaching experience
