Contributions to Science through dogs • Heart surgery techniques were tested on dogs before operating on humans • Procedures for treating Emphysema were made possible through tests on dogs • Dogs were the first animal to be used for testing organ transplants • Testing on dogs has advanced and improved microsurgery which is key in reattaching severed body parts such as toes and fingers.

  3. Characteristics of dogs useful for past/current research • The unique structure of dogs skeletal system has been useful in gaining information on human fractures • Dogs are useful because their respiratory and cardiovascular systems of like that of humans.

  4. Benefits for the animals • Vet treatments for hip and joint replacements. • Vet advancement thru research on dogs were dental care and diabetes treatments. • Dog research has made vaccines for dogs dealing with disease such as rabies.
