  7. After a graduation ceremony

  8. The Bologna phase! • Scheme: 3 + 2 + 3 Undergraduate 3 years => Bachelor Graduate 2 years => Master Postgraduate 3 years => Doctor

  9. Undergraduate study Geodesy and Geoinformatics 3 years, 180 ECTS Started 2005/06

  10. 115 new students in 2004/05 224 new students in 2005/06 !!! Bologna 144 new students in 2006/07 125 new students in 2007/08 In 2005/06 : • Enrolment quota was increased (+20) • Special laws (+26) • Some students failed the 1st year (+63)

  11. Undergraduate studies philosophy: Not to give students too much knowledge or skils: • Just enough to be good collaborators, or • To continue with graduate studies

  12. Body of Knowledge (BoK) • Beginning of 2005 • BoK = A list of knowledge and skills every student needs to acquire after each year of study • Contents of particular subjects were determined according to the BoK • Subjects were named in the second phase • Professors were selected after that • The proposed undergraduate (and graduate) program was reviewed nationally and internationally • National Committee for Higher Education • The Ministry of Science, Education and Sport

  13. Competences: • Determination of the Earh’s size and shape and measurement of all data necessary for defining the size, position, shape and contours of a part of the Earth, and their changes. • Placement and positioning of objects in space and time, and other engineering works on, above or under the Earth’s surface. • Production and updating of plans, maps and other documents.

  14. Gathering and application of spatial data using close range methods, and aerial and satellite survey. • Determining the position of public and private land boundaries, including national and international borders, and recording the land in adequate registers. • Maintenance of geoinformation systems (GIS), and gathering and storing data in these systems.

  15. Visualisation and communication by means of maps and mobile digital devices. • Assessment of values and real estate management, either urban or rural area, land or buildings. • Familiarity with geospatial services for various user groups.

  16. Undergraduate studies ends with: • baccalaureus/baccalaurea (prvostupnik/prvostupnica) in GEODESY AND GEOINFORMATICS Jobs: • Geodetic surveyor • GIS collaborator • Cadastral surveyor • Collaborator in photogrammetry • Collaborator in cartography • Collaborator in hydrography

  23. Undergraduate studies in GEODESY and GEOINFORMATICS 4th, 5th and 6th semester Lapaine, M.: Geomatics Education in Croatia GIM International, March 2007, Vol. 21

  24. First Bologna BSc experiences • Student survey at the University level • Survey by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport • Student by the Vice-rector for Education • Independent survey by the students of Geodesy and Geoinformation (120 students)

  25. Assistants versus courses

  26. Professors versus courses

  27. Organisational aspects versus courses

  28. Difficulty versus courses

  29. Average grade versus courses

  30. First Bologna BSc experiences • Optimal number of new BSc students is 150 a year according to space, equipment and the staff • 224 enroled in 2005/06 • Unexpected many students !!! • Not enough professors and assistants • Lack of larger lecture rooms • Lack of money • Etc. • Everything against continuous student’s knowledge evaluation, mentor work with smaller groups, ...

  31. First Bologna BSc experiences • 224 students enroled in 2005/06 • Only 115 entered 3rd semester with the possibility to take all subjects from the 3rd semester • Only 23 with max 60 (=30+30) ECTS

  32. First Bologna BSc experiences • 2006/07 • 263 students entered the classification exam • 144 enroled • 90 financed by the Ministry • 25 for personal needs • 29 according to the spec. Law • 2007/08 • 115 planned – 124 enroled

  33. Instead of Conclusion We will have the first real results next year!
