What’s In the Way • There is no one entity whose job it is to create a new structure, and a lot of entities whose job it is to maintain what we have. • Lack of imagination. • We have not decided as a community to create a new structure. • Old habits of mind and behavior. • Our current relationships across race, class and place.

  9. Why I’m Optimistic • The scale is manageable. • The community is poised to make a significant capital investment in several sectors. • Some school districts are intentional about solving their part of the problem (though they will need significant community collaboration). • Much of the community has started the conversation about eliminating structural poverty and racism. • We have the resources to succeed.
