  1. Daily Habits That Help Prevent Gum Disease

  2. Help Prevent Gum Disease • When you brush your teeth, you probably don’t think about your gums too much. But your gums are as important as your teeth.  • Gums keep the teeth in place and protect the nerves against bacteria that may cause infections. Keeping them in good condition also keeps your pearly whites healthy. • It is important to keep your gums healthy so that you have a confidence to smile.

  3. Here are Some Important Daily Habits that can Help Prevent Gum Disease:

  4. Brushing • Brushing is your number one defense against dental problems, including gum disease. Brushing gets rid of deposits that may otherwise linger on tooth surfaces and irritate the gums. • Be sure to brush before going to bed at night. The mouth produces less saliva during sleep, which makes the mouth more acidic and vulnerable to enamel erosion. • Getting rid of dirt reduces the risk of plaque and tartar building up.

  5. Flossing • Daily mouth cleaning isn’t complete without flossing. Flossing gets rid of debris between teeth and also keeps the gum line clean. Flossing, in itself, is one way you can keep gum diseases away. • When the gums recede, bacteria can enter the bloodstream and find their way to other body parts. • Flossing isn’t a substitute for brushing, but these two habits are more beneficial when done together.

  6. Drinking Plenty Of Water • Drinking plenty of water is good for the teeth, gums, and mouth, overall. • Water leaves behind no debris. It helps dislodge debris from the teeth and also keeps the mouth moist. • It encourages the flow of saliva, which helps neutralize acid levels in the mouth.

  7. Limiting Intake of Anything Sugary or Acidic • It’s okay to enjoy sweets and carbonated beverages once in a while. But be careful not to overindulge. Limiting your intake is essential not only for the gums and teeth but also for your overall health. • Sugary food and beverages serve as food for harmful bacteria that can break down the enamel. • Acidic beverages, meanwhile, make the tooth surfaces more vulnerable to erosion.

  8. These daily habits can keep your smile healthy and lower your dental costs. • When your teeth and gums are healthy, you avoid the need for complex dental treatments. • You get to keep your visits minimal - only for routine dental checkups and exams and perhaps elective procedures.
