  2. How to Prevent Gum Disease the Easiest Way 12/26/2015 0 Comments What is gum disease and what are its symptoms? The gums are there to protect and support the teeth and tissue that holds them to the bone. When the gums are not healthy or are not cared for carefully then this can be the onset of gum disease. This usually starts when regular brushing isn’t done or the brushing the teeth is done incorrectly, resulting in areas that aren’t thoroughly cleaned. Because of this, bacteria begin building up in a film on your teeth and the gums react to the bacteria by becoming inflamed. This swelling of the gums is known as gingivitis and is one of the first signs of gum disease. Other symptoms of gum disease can be any or all of the following: Bleeding while brushing or flossing Constant bad breath (halitosis) Gum redness Loose teeth Mouth sores Receding gum line When the gums begin to pull out further from the teeth, this lets in more bacteria. This becomes the gum disease called periodontitis. This condition will eventually cause the bones and tissues that support the teeth to break down, creating pockets where bacteria can gather and grow further. It has also been proven that people with gum disease are less likely to control blood sugar and more likely to get heart disease. Preventing gum disease the easiest way The easiest and simplest way starts with the most basic action of prevention and maintenance for teeth, which is brushing. Brushing the teeth two or three times a day is the typical and effective advice that any dentist will always give. The best times to brush is always in the morning, either after waking up or after breakfast, and before going to sleep. And this is where quality brushing comes in. Never be in a hurry to finish brushing. This only means cutting corners and these mistakes will cost you in the long run. Brush slowly and thoroughly because the objective of every brushing session is to remove the soft sticky plaque deposit from the surface of each tooth. That’s right, each tooth. Plaque is soft and easily removed by brushing so you see the importance of brushing daily. What cannot be removed by brushing is a hard deposit known as tartar. This is why it’s important to visit a dentist at least twice in a year for dental cleaning so this tartar can be removed. In all honesty, toothpaste is not an essential for brushing, it is only an aid since brushing even without toothpaste can clean the teeth. However, a carefully chosen toothpaste that contains fluoride will greatly help prevent tooth decay by strengthening the tooth enamel. 0 Comments Create a free website Powered by
