  1. Natural Selection • Today’s Goal • I can explain why Darwin’s theory of natural selection is sometimes called “survival of the fittest” Homework  NONE Warm-up: Take out HW from last night hand in up front and then pick up a Woolybooger from the front of the room. Put your name on him/her as you see in the example on the board.  Then write down the four factors that can limit a population.

  2. On a distant planet there exists 4 species of a creature called a Woolybooger

  3. Each species varies by the type of beak it has. Some have tong beaks, tweezer beaks, clothespin beaks, and the newly discovered spoon beak!

  4. When the timer starts, use your woolybooger mouth to collect as many beans as you can into your cup. • Each trial will require your woolybooger to gain at least 20 beans (after every trial , you will put the beans back) • If 20 beans are not acquired during the time period, your woolybooger has died 

  5. If you die, you may be reborn as the son/daughter of an existing woolybooger (with that type of beak) • If you get more than 30 beans, you are able to reproduce!

  6. You may not touch the bean bucket during feeding time BUT you can compete for beans. Once a bean is in another persons cup, you can no longer compete for it.

  8. Natural Selection • Today’s Goal • I can explain why Darwin’s theory of natural selection is sometimes called “survival of the fittest” Homework  Define Species  Cenozoic Era DUE WED. Vocab Quiz on Thursday on the remaining terms Warm-up: Explain why the number of tuskless elephants in Uganda maybe increasing (use page 122).

  9. Finish Wooleyboogers… • Graph the frequency of mouth type for Round 1, Round 2 and Round 3 • Answer conclusion questions • Hand in when finished • If you finish early, you can start working on your homework (define vocab species  eras)
