  3. Think-Pair-Share • What are some of the things we learned about 145th Street in “The Baddest Dog in Harlem”? • How did what you learned in yesterday’s reading help you to understand life on 145th Street better? • Did you first impression change?

  4. Think-Pair-Share: School • If you had the choice o either going to school or staying home and playing with your friends, which would you rather do? • Do you think it’s important for you to go to school? Why or why not? • What are some things that you do, even though you don’t really want to?

  5. Listening • Listening comprehension: “Fighter” pages 27-30. • Think Aloud • T-P-S: Why does Billy have a feeling of nausea as he walks to his boxing match? • What was Billy feeling as he waited for his match to start?

  6. Partner Read: pgs 30-38 • Compare and contrast Billy and the young fighter. How are they alike? How are they different? • How does Billy change during the fight? Is he still fighting just for the money? • Why do you think Billy thinks back to things that have happened to him between rounds of the fight? What conclusions can you draw about him? (write) • Why doesn’t Johnnie Mae say anything to Billy even though she knows he is fighting again?
