  1. Ground Water Recharge in parts of Ganga Basin as a Measure for Ganga River Rejuvenation

  2. FLOW IN RIVER GANGA Source: STATUS PAPER ON RIVER GANGA , MOEF

  3. Ganga river – showing meagre flows during lean season (during January, 2015)

  4. Issues and Problems

  5. PROPOSED PILOT PROJECT

  6. Kalyani nadi Ishan nadi Unnao district Bilhaur D Non nadi Pariyar B B Bithoor Kanpur district Madni nadi

  7. Proposed Interventions/ measures for GW recharge in catchment areas of streams joining river Ganga Construction of check dams Development of streams channels Revival and repair of water bodies such as ponds and tanks Construction of recharge trenches in existing channels On farm activity- including contour bunding, land leveling , rain water harvesting structures etc

  8. Pictorial Representation of field conditions for proposed interventions ~ 20 m ~ 10 m Upstream side of River near Pariyar (joining Kalyani) Upstream side of river Kalyanai, Pariyar ~ 10 m ~ 25 m Figure : Upstream side of river Kalyani Near Jamalpur Upstream side of river Kalyani near Jamalpur – Channel is silted

  9. Pictorial Representation of field conditions for proposed interventions ~ 15 m ~ 20 m Upstream side of Non River near Bithoor It is proposed that the rain water along seasonal rivers will be harnessed through construction of series of check dams so as to increase the resident period of the water in these channels. Upstream side of River Ishan Near Bilhaur Downstream side of Non River near Bithoor ~ 10 m ~ 15 m Upstream side of River Ishan Near Bilhaur Upstream side of River Non near Bithoor Downstream side of River Non near Bithoor

  10. Total tentative cost of the proposed project = Rs. 98.30 crore Expected recharge to GW ~ 40 MCM The augmentation of the river flow and ultimately contribution to the flow in Ganga river resulting from ground water recharge as base flow will be assessed after river hydrograph analysis.
