  5. Twitter: @FulweilerLab Our research is focused on understanding nutrient cycling and energy flow across the land-ocean continuum. Lab mission statement: We are ecologists and biogeochemists, studying how anthropogenic forcings alter the coastal ocean. Our holistic approach considers both local impacts, such as land use change and nutrient pollution, as well as global impacts such as warming water temperature and elevated carbon dioxide concentrations. We work from forests to farm fields, from urban rivers to urban estuaries, from coastal seas to the continental shelf (and now the deep sea!). Our science not only answers fundamental research questions, but it provides timely and relevant data that can help inform management and policy of coastal ecosystems. We are committed to sharing our research and our passion for science with others.

  6. Marine Program – Aquarist Internship • The BU Marine Program has openings for 2 to 6 freshmen and/or sophomores for its highly sought-after Saltwater Aquarist Internships, in the fall semester of 2018 and beyond. • The first year is a volunteer position. You will learn the basics of saltwater aquarium maintenance, animal care and the day-to-day running of the BU Marine Program laboratory space. • Second and Third years are paid thru work study or department funds. You will learn more intermediate and advanced skills, including being involved in aquarium system design and construction.  • The interns will receive mentoring from the Laboratory Supervisor/Aquarist (Justin Scace), Senior Research Technician (Cara Johnson), and Professor Peter Buston. • The three-year internship provides training that has led to positions at large aquariums, aquaculture facilities, animal care facilities and research labs, as well as grad and vet school. • Freshmen and Sophomore Marine Science, Biology, and Earth & Environment majors interested in marine life and saltwater aquarium systems are encouraged to apply. • Applications will be considered from students in other majors, e.g., English or Engineering, with a keen interest in marine life and saltwater aquarium systems. • Please send a short statement explaining why you are interested in the position, along with a CV and copy of your transcript to Pete Buston at buston@bu.edu
