Some mobile cranes have the ability to pick up and transport a load using their treads or wheels. Some mobile cranes can be used with counterweights, outriggers or on-site assembly. An overhead crane has two main components: an overhead bridge, which moves along what is known as a runway and the hoist that moves along the bridge beam. A tower crane has two basic components: a vertical base (the tower), and a rotating horizontal joint that allows the trolley and hoist to travel.
