  2. Mission To provide prevention training to military members and outreach to military families in an effort to increase military discipline, individual performance, and combat readiness while establishing a culture of responsible choices for Idaho’s Soldiers and Airmen.

General SA Responsibilities • Ensure military personnel receive 4 hours of training annually (2 hours for M-Day soldiers) • Address military risk levels and focus on reducing risk factors • Assist with outreach programs for military personnel and their families (Camps etc.) • Provide Guard members with referral /resource information when needed • Assist soldiers/airmen with concerns regarding substance abuse during the reintegration process (deployment concerns etc.)

  6. Current issues within the Guard Marijuana (THC) use - 85 Percent of illicit drug positives within the Idaho Army Guard are THC positives. Alcohol Abuse / DUI’s - Increase in DUI’s and alcohol related incidents within the Guard during the past 12 months.

  7. Alcohol in the Guard • Alcohol is the MOST ABUSED drug by soldiers/airmen. (Serious alcohol incidents involving Guard members up 50 percent in last two years.) • Responsible Drinking: Drinking in a way that it does not adversely affect an individual’s ability to fulfill their legal, moral, or social obligations nor does it negatively impact their health, job performance, or quality of life.

  9. Two major actions that facilitate the tolerance of substance abuse within the National Guard- Enabling behavior(Looking the other way)- Lack of Command Emphasis(Weak testing and prevention programs)

ARNG Statistics FY08 Drug Stats IDARNG – Pos: 55 (44 Illegal / 11 Legal) End strength: 3335 Total soldiers tested: 2379 FY09 Drug Stats IDARNG – Pos: 33 (23 Illegal / 10 Legal) End strength: 3335 Total soldiers tested: 2034 FY10 Drug Stats IDARNG – Pos: 59 (45 Illegal / 14 Legal) End strength: 3208 Total soldiers tested: 1959

  12. IDNG PTO Overview Any of our Service Member’s could be struggling with substance abuse issues and in need of help. Be aware of the warning signs!

  13. Prevention Purpose: The objective is to prevent alcohol and drug abuse Educate yourself & unit members Provide prevention strategies 4-hour prevention & education training requirement per FY (2 hours for M-Day personnel)

  16. Preventioncontinued Make the most of prevention efforts Address areas such as avoiding negative peer influence, DUI education, and decision making Remember, a plan is a technique used to obtain a favorable outcome or situation Planning requires constant revision and evaluation
