  5. EGTC in Austria – status quo Development in the adaption of legal provisions on EGTC in Austria Austria is a federal state composed of 9 autonomous Laender. Art. 15 Federal Constitutional LawIn so far as a matter is not expressly assigned by the Federal Constitution to the Federation for legislation or also execution, it remains within the Laenders’ autonomous sphere of competence. The adaption of federal constitutional law is still pending. In the meantime each of the nine Austrian Laenderhas adopted the legal provisions on EGTC – very similar.

  8. EGTC – situation in Austria Established EGTC: EGTC Euregio Tirolo-Alto Adige-Trentino – registered 9/2011with seat in Italy in preparation: EGTC „Senza Confini“ – Austria (Carinthia) and ItalyFriuli – Venezia Giulia – Veneto there are some other ideas in Upper Austria and Salzburg

  9. EGTC Euregio Tirolo – Alto Adige – Trentino • Countries involved: Italy & Austria • Seat of the EGTC: Bolzano, Italy • Members • Land Tyrol • The Autonomous Province Bolzano – South Tyrol • The Autonomous Province of Trento • Establishment of the EGTC: officially registered 13th Sept. 2011

  10. EGTC Euregio Tirolo – Alto Adige – Trentino The members had a long history of cooperation before becoming an EGTC. The key objectives are to strengthen the economic, social and the cultural cooperation between the citizens of the member regions and to strengthen territorial development with a focus on the following areas: Education, culture, energy, sustainable mobility (green corridor Brenner), health, research and innovation, mountain agriculture etc.

Burgenland and European Territorial Cooperation • Burgenland took part in 3 bilateral programs– Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia • In these programmes about 210 projects have been approved with an EU funding of approx. € 209 Mio. in total in the period of 2007 – 2013 (Burgenland: € 33 Mio.) • very successful cooperation – commitment of program funds about 100% • Burgenland also participated in transnational programs • South-East Europe (SEE) – Central Europe • and in interregional programmes • INTERREG IVC

  13. Conclusion The goal after the „pilot-phase of implementation EGTC“ is to exchange the experiences within Europe, to get some examples of good practice, to identify the challenges, opportunities, obstacles and the added value. This could be a good basis for more feasible EGTC regulations and an excellent guidance for choosing the most sustainable and efficient instruments in territorial cooperation and for Multi-Level Governance.
