  2. Charter application was submitted to our sponsor, the South Carolina Public Charter School District (SCPCSD), on October 3, 2008. SCCAL History Founding Board: Laura Blackmore, Susan Frew, Jean Halle, and Randy Wilgis SCPCSD approved charter application on November 13, 2008. Our SCPCSD Operating Agreement is for a term of 10 years and expires 2/4/19. Documents: Charter Application (297pp), Approval Letter, and Operating Agreement

The South Carolina Calvert Academy Governing Board is responsible for establishment of policies for, and oversight of, all aspects of the school’s operations including financial, academic, staff management, and legal. The Board bears the ultimate responsibility for ensuring the school’s proper management. The Board will direct the strategic planning of the school. The Governing Board will hire the school Principal and be responsible for the supervision, compensation, evaluation and retention or termination of the Principal. The Principal will report directly to the Governing Board. (Charter, p.114) SCCAL Board Oversight Responsibilities

Employing and contracting with employees Ensuring that teachers undergo the background checks and other investigations required for certified teachers, as provided by law, before they may teach in the charter school; Contracting for other services Developing pay scales, performance criteria, and discharging policies for its employees Deciding all other matters related to the operation of the charter school, including budgeting, curriculum and operating procedures Responsibilities Consistent with SC Law and Regulations

Establishing policies and procedures to uphold national, state, and local laws; Taking on and supporting the mission and goals of South Carolina Calvert Academy; Evaluating the achievements of the school compared to the annual goals established by the Board; Reviewing financials to ensure stability and financial responsibility and proper stewardship of the South Carolina Calvert Academy; Conducting meetings in accordance with applicable federal, state and local open meeting laws; and Maintaining minutes of all Board meetings conducted.
