  3. Dear Reader, I’ve always known that my writing has matured since I was in elementary school, but as I was going through my collected works, I was surprised to see how much. I’ve included two letters that I wrote when I was nine years old and my award winning essay I wrote in the fourth grade. You will see from the letters that, at a young age, I knew how to articulate what I wanted (to the point of being obnoxious), although the delivery wasn’t particularly graceful. When I was in middle school, I developed a sense of sentence structure and learned that it isn’t considered appropriate to draw pictures in your letters. I was very ambitious in school and started to enjoy writing in journals and answering writing prompts. In high school, we started looking at the analytical side of writing, which I didn’t like nearly as much. I’m used to it now, but I still miss the days when I could write down stories and random thoughts in class. I tried my hand at poetry when I was an underclassmanand enjoyed it but I don’t really know much about writing poetry. Yet. I feel very proud of my writing over the past nine years and I look forward to developing my writing skills more in college.
