  4. Origin of the Idea • Observation that so many library customers have mobile computing devices today • Desire to reach these individuals through the devices they use • Rapid expansion of wireless voice and data services

  5. Project Feasibility • Observation that many customers carry mobile computing devices • Increased power of handheld devices • Expansion of iWave in Bracken Library • Need to further integrate library and computer applications

  7. LSTA Mini-Grant • Sponsored by the Indiana State Library and funded by LSTA • Innovative Technology Option • Maximum award possible: $15,000 • Amount awarded: $15,000 • $618,039 in requests, $500,000 available

  8. Proof of Concept • Develop a mobile application to access the SIRSI Unicorn database (CardCat) through the Z39.50 server • Code Name: MOPAC • Development Environment • Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 • Microsoft Internet Information Server • OpenWave Browser and other emulators
