  4. HET model HET means Highly Effective Teaching. This model combines many "best practices" of educational research and places them all within the circle of an effective research based behavior management system.  The behavior plan emphasizes growing responsible citizens (Lifelong Guidelines, Lifeskills) and within this framework are the interwoven researched based practices including: the biology of learning (body/brain compatible learning practices, multiple intelligences), instructional strategies, and conceptual curriculum. 

  5. Our Pledge We began the beginning of the school year with a focus on our classroom “Community”. Our Classroom pledge is “I promise to be TRUSTWORTHY, TRUTHFUL and an ACTIVE LISTENER too. I will do my PERSONAL BEST and give NO PUT DOWNS to you.” We will focus on these Lifelong Guidelines and discuss some meaningful life skills as well.

  6. How do we learn? Brain researchers have long understood that learning takes place more effectively when the brain is stimulated by more than one of the senses.   The HET model uses this brain research to give students a wide range of experiences to build on the first step of learning:  Pattern Seeking and Meaning Making.   We do this in many ways by engaging the brain at different levels: Symbolic (2 senses) Second-hand (3 senses) Hands on of representational items (4 senses) Hands on of the real thing (9 senses) Immersion (13 senses) Being there  (all 19 senses) Yes, 19 senses!  The five well-known senses are further divided into sub-categories.   Step two of learning is called Program Building.   Information shifts from the front toward the back of the brain as students are able to use learning with support. As information shifts to the back and lower/older brain structures, students' ability becomes automatic and part of long-term memory. Using as many senses as possible aids in this shift of information.

  7. We are SMART! Logical - mathematical:  puzzles, chess, checkers, computers, working things out  (Number Smart) Linguistic - like to write, tell stories, reading, enjoy rhymes and tongue twisters, crossword puzzles (Word Smart) Spatial - art activities, visualize while reading, enjoy movies or photographs, jigsaw puzzles, daydream a lot  (Picture Smart)  Bodily-kinesthetic - use body language, sports requiring physical skill, move/twitch/fidget while sitting, need to touch (Body Smart) Musical - play instrument or sing, remember melodies, sing to self, keep time rhythmically (tap or drum) (Music Smart) Intrapersonal - independent, strong opinion, like to be alone, self-confident, self motivated (Self Smart) Interpersonal - lots of friends, socialize a great deal, group games, empathy for others  (People Smart) Naturalist - questions about environment, enjoy collections of natural objects (insects), scouting or other outdoor activity (Nature Smart)

  10. How is My Child Doing in Kindergarten? Each quarter a report card will come home. Academics are graded with a number system. 3= Standard is mastered 2= Child is progressing toward mastery 1= Limited progress toward mastery Behavior and Work Habit Grades receive a letter. S= Satisfactory P= Progressing N= Needs Improvement Each quarter Parent Rubric is included in your child’s BEE folder.

How Has Kindergarten Changed Since We Attended? • Kindergarten is very academic. • We follow the state standards for our instruction. • Teaching is taught in small, differentiated groups during the majority of our day. • Instruction is assessment driven. • Kindergarteners are amazing and can learn so much!
