  5. Elements • a substance that cannot be broken down into other chemical substances by chemical or physical means. • All the matter around you is composed of one element or a combination of two or more elements.

  6. Compounds • Most elements are not found in their pure form in nature. • They are more likely found as parts of compounds. • A compound is a substance made up of 2 or more elements chemically combined in a specific ratio.

  7. Mixtures • A MIXTURE is a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically united and do not exist in fixed proportions to each other. Most natural substances are mixtures. • The different parts of a mixture keep their individual properties. • A solution is a well-mixed mixture.

  9. Physical Change • A physical change is a change in which no new substances are formed. • Examples: changes of shape, changes of states

  10. Chemical Change • A chemical change is a change in which one or more new substances are formed.
