  2. National Mission: To improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births, and infant mortality. The March of Dimes carries out this mission through programs of research, community service, education and advocacy to save babies' lives.

  4. What do you know about MoD? 1. The March of Dimes was founded in 1938 to successfully defeat what epidemic disease?

  5. What do you know about MoD? Polio one of the most dreaded childhood diseases of the 20th century MoD helped defeat polio in 1955!

  7. Former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt diagnosed with polio in 1921 and paralyzed from the waist down What do you know about MoD?

  8. What do you know about MoD? 3. What is the current ratio of premature births in the United States?

  9. What do you know about MoD? 1 out of 8 babies are born premature in the U.S. that's more than half a million babies each year!

MoD at UCI Our Mission: "The purpose of the March of Dimes Collegiate Council at UCI is to improve the health of babies by generating awareness among college students through peer education, community service, campus involvement, and community events that raise funds for research to help save babies from infant mortality and birth defects."

What do we do? • Educate the UCI campus and California about improving the health of babies! • Guest speakers: researchers from the UCI Medical School, NICU nurses, and representatives from the national March of Dimes organization. • November is Prematurity Awareness Month • Lobby Day in Sacramento • Fundraising for the national organization • Restaurant fundraisers • Game Day • Shocktoberfest • Wayzgoose • Barnes and Nobles giftwrapping fundraiser • March for Babies at Fashion Island

How do YOU benefit? • Grad school! • Applications and interviews! • leadership roles • extracurricular activities • Your future babies and/or family! • Educate the "uneducated" • Network with guest speakers and advisors • Officers are all "upper division" students. We will be happy to give some guidance (classes, teachers, other advice)! • Make new friends!

  14. Membership Fees You will like this.... ...$0, none, nada, zilch! We believe that your involvement and dedication to help us carry out the mission is enough! Most of our events are funded by our fundraisers!  psst! However, donations are always welcome.
