  2. How Many of These Do You Recognize?

  3. Back Then…Did You Ever Hear This Question? • Why do I need CADD? I can do my design just as fast on the drawing board. • Or maybe you were the one asking the question?

  4. That Was Then… • In late 80s and well into the 90s, we experienced a paradigm shift in the civil design world. • We were abandoning drawing boards, T-squares and drafting pens. • We were beginning to embrace computer aided design and drafting.

  5. This is Now… • CADD is almost universally accepted as a standard and necessary tool to accomplish our civil designs. • Most engineers and drafters have a computer on their desk with CADD software installed. • Most organizations have adopted standard software, workflows and CADD standards.

  6. That was Then… • Many younger engineers and drafters have no clue what this is. • Nor can they remember that finally getting one of these was almost as exciting as your first date.

  7. This is Now… • Your customers are demanding this…

  8. We are Facing New Challenges • Making visualization for hearings is inefficient and difficult. • Feeding machine control is often challenging. • Although CADD is commonplace we still represent things rather than model things. • Thing 1 has no knowledge that it depends on Thing 2.

  9. We Need Design Tools in Which… • Relationships are preserved and reliably updateable. • A design object knows what it is and how it should look and act. • Visualization is easier and more efficient. • Feeding machine control is easier and more efficient.

  10. A New Paradigm Shift is Upon Us • Features – Design Objects which know what they are. • Your decisions (design intent) which created the elements are preserved on the elements as rules. • Relationships between elements are preserved. • 3D Modeling for pretty much everything.

  11. Bentley Civil V8i Select Series 3 - OpenRoads • The culmination of years of development. • A major step forward in civil modeling capability • Provides modeling and intelligent design for all of your grading projects.

  12. Civil Demonstration

  13. What’s Next • Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis • Convergence of the Haestad product line with the Civil Product line. • 3D modeling for underground utilities and drainage networks.. • Hydraulic Design and Analysis for drainage networks

  14. Subsurface Utilities – What is It? OpenRoads Platform for interface, Geometry and Modeling Haestad Hydraulics & AnalysisEngine + Subsurface Utilities Toolset
