  4. In one Hospital-like design – research findings Promising Practices: • Staff health and safety • Ability for staff to help each other, cover, switch • accessible, affordable care • Better than average pay for workers

  5. Hotel/Resort • Attractive, spacious surroundings • Privacy for residents • Food service appetizing and personal • Management programs for resident comfort and needs • Management program for staff credentials

  6. Home/Domesticity • Small “households” • Food prepared on site with residents • Lots of activity and engagement • Active communal areas

  7. Transcending Metaphors In order to produce conditions of dignity and respect for residents and workers, we must consider: 1) Context 2)Evaluation criteria 3) Promising practices, WITH the contradictions that have the least impact on respect and dignity. Thank you!
