General Packet Radio Services • GPRS adalah layanan komunikasi tanpa kawat berbasis paket. • Teknologi yang digunakan dalam jaringan GSM untuk menangani komunikasi data. • Merupakan teknologi overlay yg disisipkan di atas jaringan GSM untuk menangani komunikasi data pada jaringan • Laju data yg ditawarkan hingga 160 Kbps

  3. Peluncuran GPRS ? • Peluncuran GPRS pertama kali didunia dilakukan pd Th.1999 atas kerjasama Ericsson dengan T-Mobile. • Peluncuran penuh layanan GPRS terjadi pada awal 2001.

  4. Alasan Teknis Penggunaan GPRS • Teknik Transmisi data yg ada pd GSM bersifat Dedicated. • Komunikasi GSM bersifat tersakelar rangkaian. • Kecepatan Laju data GSM lebih rendah.

  9. GPRS Backbone Network • Backbone intra PLMN Penghubung antar GSN dalam satu operator yg sama. 2. Backbone inter PLMN Penghubung GSN dan backbone intra PLMN antar operator GPRS dan juga menyediakan roaming internasional.

  10. Kelebihan GPRS • Mampu memanfaatkan kemampuan cakupan global GSM • Memiliki laju data lebih cepat (dapat mencapai 160 kbps) • Menawarkan konsep “ satu pipa paket bagi keduanya “ • Berbasis paket • Menghilangkan pembatas bagi akses data bergerak
