  3. How is English II different than English I? Goals for this year: • Strengthen your reading and writing skills (why are these skills important?) • Prepare for success on STAAR EOC, English II • “College readiness”

  4. Grading/Late Work/Make Up Work • 50% daily work • 30% test/major assignments • 20% final exam Late work—things for your teacher to consider . . . • WHY is the work late? (didn’t understand assignment, needs more help/time) • WHAT was the student doing all period? (working or socializing/sneaking phone) • When is the assignment turned in? (if teacher allows late work, what is a reasonable time period • to accept the work late?)

  5. Make Up Work • You are aware of upcoming absence, it is important to let your teacher know. • Your attendance is YOUR responsibility. When absent, on the DAY your return, see your teacher • about any missed work. JUST BECAUSE YOU ASK DOES NOT GET YOU “OFF THE HOOK.” • It is important to follow up, get the work/notes completed, and then turn in any assignment within • 1 or 2 days. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE GRADING PERIOD. REMEMBER: It is your responsibility to stay on top of your assignments, study time, reading, notebook, supplies, etc. This is YOUR education…OWN IT!

  6. Class Norms • Follow SISD/AHS rules of school/classroom behavior • Respect colleagues • Be on time to class (this can end up effecting your grade!) • Restroom Breaks cannot be taken during the first OR last 10 minutes of class. • (require collateral to go!)
