  1. Camp Greenlake

  2. Vern,I'm spending this summer at Camp Green Lake- it's not as beautiful as it sounds. And it's not a camp at all. It's part of the juvenile justice system. I was falsely accused of stealing a pair of shoes and was sent here.Every day, all day, the only thing we do is dig. Seriously, we must dig one hole each day. That may not sound like much, but the hole must be five feet deep and five feet in diameter. The ground we dig in is hard and dry- it used to be the bottom of a lake once upon a time. They say we dig to build character. The only thing I've built is a callous on every finger. The west Texas sun is a killer, baking us like a Thanksgiving ham. We get water breaks but I'm always so thirsty.  The winds blow dust and dirt in our faces and it doesn't taste very good. We are always dirty- even after our daily cold showers. I'm not sure how much more I can take of this, but have met some good friends: X-ray, Barfbag, Zero, and others. Hope to see you soon!Stanley YelnatsP.S. Don't tell my parents about this. They think I'm at some cool summer camp like the rest of the kids. Vern Tessio 315 Elm Street Castle Rock, OR 97818
