  1. Jan. 31st, 2014:Hello!Happy Friday! Please grab your journal and answer the following prompt in 6-8 sentences: What do you think it would be like to have millions of dollars? What luxuries (nice things) would you buy? What practical (useful things) would you spend your money on?What about having little money? How would you save money if you didn’t have much of it? What luxuries would you leave behind? What practical things would you cut out?

  2. Agenda • Share out journal (extra credit) • Read article on saving money and answer questions • Watch Extreme Cheapskates • Group compare/contrast: Rich life vs. Poor life using the ACE Method

  3. Goals • You will be able to demonstrate how to find main idea and supporting details • You will be able to compare and contrast • You will be able to use a text to cite and back up your answers using the ACE method

  4. Saving Money for Teens • Before you read: • Do you know someone who is bad at saving their money? Do you know someone who is good at it? • Why do you think it would be important to start saving as a teenager? • What would you want or need to save your money for? • Read the FDIC article on how teens can save money and the article on what teens are spending their money on (MARK UP THE TEXT!) • After reading, answer the questions on the next slide

  5. 5 Ways to Cut Spending • Which tip is the most realistic way you think you could cut your spending? • Which tip is the most unrealistic? • Do you think you will use this advice in the future? Why or why not? • Out of all the statistics on the article about what teens are spending and how they are spending, what fact surprised you the most? • Can you relate to any of the articles or any of the things they talked about?

  6. Extreme Cheapskates • Watch the episode • As you watch, TAKE NOTES on who is doing what to save money • Note how realistic/unrealistic this seems • Be ready to answer questions!

  7. ACE it! • A: Answer the question • C: Cite your answer using information from Extreme Cheapskates and the 2 articles • E: Explain what you said and why you said it.

  8. Before you go… • On the graphic organizer, answer the question: • Should teens start saving money now? Are saving and managing money important to teenagers, or should they just enjoy not having the responsibility? Why or why not? • Use ACE! Answer the question, Cite sources, and Explain your answer
