3. October 2011 (Brussels): • Public presentation of the MoU and Handbook to a wide audience, with the collaboration of the EC for the invitation of relevant HPC centers and RI, plus the EU programmes offering access to RI • Official signature of the MoU by the HPCW partners + US “partners” (???)

4. November 2011 Seattle: • Meeting of the Working group • BoF (or something else) at SC2011 (to be discussed) • Presentation at one of the beneficiaries booth (to be discussed)

5. Spring 2012 location TBD in USA: • One big event of dissemination of the Handbook and possible signature of the MoU by the interested centers. Invitations to: all the US and South America HPC centers and RI

7. EC WorkProgramme 2012 • While Member States remain central in the development and financing of most infrastructures, the EU can and should via FP7 play a catalysing and leveraging role by helping to ensure wider and more efficient access to and use of the infrastructures existing in the different Member States. The EU actions should also stimulate the coordinated development, deployment and networking of these infrastructures, and foster the emergence of new research infrastructures of pan-European interest within a medium to long term vision.

8. The EC approach for 2012 • The work programme for 2012 will build on the strategic approach for existing and new research infrastructures undertaken in previous years, taking into account the new orientations set out by the Europe 2020 strategyanditstwo flagship initiatives: Innovation Union and Digital Agenda. The foreseen actions will help overcome the fragmentation of efforts and will contribute to the development of technological capacity, scientific performance and innovative advantage in Europe. They will contribute thereby to the development of a more efficient and attractive European Research Area.

9. The Commitment n. 32: "to step up European Union cooperation on the roll-out of the global research infrastructures" will be directly addressed by Call N° 10 supporting cooperation with the USA to address global scientific challenges through interoperable research infrastructures across the Atlantic.

10. The aim is to reinforce cooperation with the USA in jointly addressing global scientific challenges through interoperable research infrastructures across the Atlantic. The emphasis will be on scientific data management issues including the development of common policies which address the full life cycle of data (topic 3.1) and promote interoperable e-Infrastructures services for scientific data (topic 3.2). This will be implemented through a non-binding partnership with the National Science Foundation, USA, where each side will provide funds for their own projects based on their respective granting guidelines, policies and procedures, and the investigators will work on areas of mutual interest. Projects selected under topics 3.1 and 3.2 will be, to the extent possible, complementary and interlinked. Furthermore, under topic 3.3 this work programme calls for coordination and support actions in e-Infrastructures.

12. INFRA-2012-3.2: International cooperation with the USA on common e-infrastructure for scientific data The objective is to establish an EU/USA coordination platform aiming at full interoperability of scientific data infrastructures, and to demonstrate this coordination through several joint EU-USA prototypes that would ensure persistent availability and effective sharing of data across scientific domains, organisations and national boundaries. The platform should provide for: the collection of requirements and approaches for standardisation (development, promotion, adoption and maintenance); common ICT infrastructure approaches (technical, semantic, reference architecture, financing models, etc) in order to lower access barriers; harmonisation of intellectual property frameworks for scientific information; and mechanisms for international networking of experts and multidisciplinary communities. The joint prototypes should leverage and build upon similar initiatives in Europe and USA. The proposal should clearly describe synergies and collaboration with corresponding existing or potential NSF-funded initiatives.

13. HPCWorld MoU • Proposed aims: • Continuing the international collaboration; • Maintaining updated the model for access to RI; • Creating an "association" to ensure persistence after HPCW expiring date.
