  1. Seniors 2020 It is going to be a great (but busy) year.

  2. Your 1ST Goal GRADUATE! • You should have received your transcript recently. See your counselor if: You have failed a required course and don’t have a plan to make it up You have less than 34 credits and are not enrolled in 7 classes

  3. YOUR 2ND GOAL MAKE A PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR • Identify which possibilities you might want to pursue: • College • Career Tech • Military • Work • Each of these options requires that you do something this year in order to be prepared.

  4. college • You do not have to decide yet which college you want to attend, but you need to apply to those schools you are considering. • Applying is not a commitment. • You can be accepted to more than one school. • Apply now-decide later, if necessary • Visit the campus. You can have 3 college visit days that will not count as absences. Take a form from the attendance office with you.

  5. applying to college Apply Online Mrs. Choate, counseling secretary, can send your transcript to the college electronically. You must request this from her. If you are signed up for free or reduced lunch, you can get a fee waiver for the application fee. Keep trying to raise your ACT/SAT, even after your application is complete. Fee waivers are available for those on free or reduced lunch. Register at ACT.org and SAT.org

  6. look for financial assistance • Your college application typically includes an application for scholarships from that college. • Watch the deadline! • Search for other scholarships: • Okcollegestart.org • Fastweb.com • Occf.org • Ucango2.org • Your parent’s work or your work • Your church • YHS announcements-Local scholarships are announced here

  7. Free application for federal student aid--fafsa • Provides aide based on financial need. • Includes: Grants, Work Study, Student loans • This application should be filled out by everyone applying to college. • Apply online beginning October 1. • Fafsa.gov

  8. Career Tech Yukon High School graduates can attend Canadian Valley Technology Center for free until age 24. • You should begin the application process now. If you have an ACT composite of at least 19, or a SAT score of at least 980, you should contact the counselor at CVTC to be placed on the waiting list for next August. • If you don’t have the necessary score, you should contact CVTC and set up a time to take their placement test. • You can attend other technology centers at a low cost.

  9. Military • If you are interested in the military, you need to visit with a recruiter. • Mrs. Choate, counseling secretary, can give you the contact information for the recruiters from the different military branches.

  10. Other important items • The counselors host a rethink session every Wednesday. College representatives are scheduled to come throughout the first semester. Watch for “Ask a College Rep” • Concurrent enrollment for 2nd semester will begin in late October. • If you need a letter of recommendation from someone, give them plenty of notice. • Also give them a resume or a list of your activities and awards.
