  1. Sino-Danish Breast Cancer Research Centre Beijing Genomic Institute, Shenzhen University of Copenhagen University of Århus University of Southern Denmark Danish Technical University Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen

  2. Sino-Danish Breast Cancer Research Centre Primary goal: To improve survival and quality of life of breast cancer patients

  3. Sino-Danish Breast Cancer Research Centre Medical problem: 60 % of all primary breast cancer patients are candidates for adjuvant anthracycline containing chemotherapy and 30% are candidates for endocrine therapy. However, only approximately 50% of the patients will benefit from the treatment. How can we improve the treatment selection and thereby the overall effect of the treatment ?

  4. Sino-Danish Breast Cancer Research Centre We will try to solve this fundamental problem by identifying, characterizing and validating new predictive biomarkers, and thereby changing conventional chemotherapy into targeted therapy. By identifying new predictive biomarkers for endocrine therapy the overall efficacy of this type of treatment will be improved.

  5. Prediction Prognosis Predictive biomarker: Identifies subpopulations of patients who are most likely to respond to a given therapy Prognostic biomarker: Indicates the likely course of the disease in an untreated individual.

  6. Sino-Danish Breast Cancer Research Centre How do we do this ? By combining the efforts of the foremost genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and clinical breast cancer researches !!

  7. Sino-Danish Breast Cancer Research Centre • High quality frozen breast cancer tissue from sensitive and from resistant patients will be transported from DBCG to BGI for in depth genomic and transcriptomic analyses. • Obtained data will be analysed and specific genes of interest will be identified by bioinformatics and system biology approaches.

  8. Sino-Danish Breast cancer Research Centre 3. Human breast cancer cell lines will be transfected with these genes and subsequently tested for sensitivity to chemotherapy and endocrine therapy 4. Assays for formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections will be developed

  9. Sino-Danish Breast Cancer Research Centre 5. The genes of interest will be tested for predictive value in independent breast cancer samples with full clinical data. 6. Assays will be introduced into the daily management of breast cancer patients

  10. Sino-Danish Breast Cancer Research Centre We have solved a tremendious problem and saved the life of thousands of women !!!
