    1. Superintendent’s Report AB75 Principals’ Training Presented to Board of Education June 5, 2003

District Training Plan Overview Training mandatory for administrators in High Priority schools HLPUSD to train all 60 principals and assistant- & vice-principals All instructional leaders “on the same page” concerning curriculum, instruction, and assessment. All teachers uniformly supported in a standards-based system.

    3. Training Consists of 80 hours of Institute provided in 3 Modules Leadership & Support of Student Instructional Programs Leadership & Management for Instructional Improvement Instructional Technology to Improve Pupil Performance Progress 80 hours of Practicum Application of training principles at the site

    4. District Training Timeline Begins June 18, continues throughout 2003-04 Most participants complete in one year Sessions repeat to allow half of the administrators to remain on site at middle and high schools

    5. Training Provider Providers & curriculum are state board approved. District’s provider is the Pulliam Group. 2-year collaboration to improve low performing schools & implement data driven, standards-based education District goals woven into AB75 training Training supports K-12 administrators in achieving the Board’s goals & mandates of No Child Left Behind

    6. Training Costs $3400 per trainee CDE and Gates Foundation reimburse districts for trainees who complete Funding to train 40 of the district’s 60 K-12 administrators has been allocated Funding for the remaining 20 is uncertain Training cost would be $51,500

    7. Options: training for currently unfunded group Funds may be allocated in the state budget process If funds are not allocated Pay for training from categorical funds Discontinue training at time budget is finalized & pay only for training provided to that date. (Contract allows termination if funds are not allocated.)

    8. AB75: Summary AB75 training is aligned to Board’s goals, LEA Plan, & No Child Left Behind Supports consistency in implementation of instructional programs Professional development for K-12 site administrators to be effective instructional leaders in a high accountability atmosphere
