As a participant in New York State's social equity program for justice- involved individuals, I saw an opportunity to not only rebuild my life but also contribute positively to my community. Cannabis has always intrigued me, so when the chance arose to be part of this emerging industry, I seized it. [Interviewer]: Your perseverance is commendable, David. Can you tell us about the challenges you've faced in bringing Munchies Dispensary NY to fruition? [David Hooper]: Oh, where do I begin? The journey hasn't been without its hurdles. From navigating the intricacies of regulations to dealing with unexpected changes mid-process, it's been a rollercoaster ride. The legal battles that slowed down the rollout of the cannabis market in New York were particularly frustrating. However, I've learned to approach these challenges with resilience and a focus on solutions rather than dwelling on setbacks. [Interviewer]: It sounds like you've encountered your fair share of obstacles. How do you maintain your optimism in the face of such challenges? [David Hooper]: It's certainly not easy, but I remind myself that this industry is still in its infancy. The New York Office of Cannabis Management is new, and like any new venture, there are bound to be growing pains. Instead of dwelling on the shortcomings, I choose to focus on the progress we've made and the potential for positive change. Rather than pointing fingers, I believe in working collaboratively to address issues and improve the system for everyone involved. [Interviewer]: That's a commendable approach, David. What advice do you have for others navigating the complexities of the legal cannabis market, especially those facing similar challenges? [David Hooper]: My advice would be to stay informed, stay adaptable, and stay resilient. Educate yourself about the regulations and stay updated on any changes. Be prepared to pivot when necessary and don't be afraid to seek support from mentors and advocates.
