Why focus on gifted? • Effective education systems should meet the needs of all pupils, including the most able • Amongst today’s gifted pupils are tomorrows social, intellectual, economic and cultural leaders • Focusing on the gifted can help raise overall standards • To do nothing will maintain the existing inequalities

  3. What does NAGTY do? NAGTY, the government’s core partner, leads on and drives through improvements in gifted and talented education through: • a range of services and activities for members • training and information for education professionals • research to improve pedagogy and understanding of gifted education

  4. Who are the members? • aged 11-19 • in the national top 5% of the ability range • almost 90,000 identified • total recruitment target 200,000 • in every LA • in almost 60% of schools

  5. What can members do FOR FREE? Recommended Activities Quality activities from other providers. Forums Online Learning:Expert-led discussion forums and web-based learning. Experts in Action: Lecture series. ACHIEVE Careers Service

  6. What do members pay for? Outreach Short face-to-face learning Top venues country-wide Delivered by experts Residential Summer School Two or three weeks Flagship provision 1050 places at 8 venues Extended Day Summer School Pilot running in 2006
