  1. Switching Bank for Radio Interregation of Granular Materials Mentee: Naman Mehta Mentor: Michael Daly Professor J. T. Bernhard

  2. What? • Design a Device to switch between 8 Different Antennas • These antennas pickup data from a bucket of Granular materials (sand, cereal, etc.)

  3. Why? Research is needed on how and why different sized objects mix during a packaging process. Example: Throw a handful of different sized candies together in a bag. Mix them. Do you see a pattern in the orientation of the candies?

  4. How We mix RETROREFLECTORS (objects that reflect waves) in with a batch of granular materials. Mix them while keeping track of their positions using ANTENNAS.

  5. What I am working on… • There has to be a SWITCHING BANK that toggles between 8 Antennas. • So: 8 strips (transmission lines) with 8 ON/OFF switches (diodes)

  6. Progress so far… • Gather specifics on the components needed • Simulate this switching bank in “PUFF 2.1”

  7. What else to come • Possible redesign of the antenna setup • Different method of using the antennas • Simulating all 8 inputs
