Projectile motion

Projectile motion. Nash – physics. NFL PROJECTILE MOTION. So the x and y directions of motion are independent…. In the x-direction: No forces act on the ball, except air resistance which we will ignore for now. The motion is the x-direction will stay constant (Newton’s 1 st Law)

  1. Projectile motion Nash – physics

  2. NFL PROJECTILE MOTION

  3. So the x and y directions of motion are independent… • In the x-direction: No forces act on the ball, except air resistance which we will ignore for now. The motion is the x-direction will stay constant (Newton’s 1st Law) The position in the x-direction is defined by: Initial Velocity Initial X-position time

  4. So the x and y directions of motion are independent… • In the y-direction: The only force acting on the ball is gravity. (Except air resistance) The motion in the y-direction is a constant acceleration straight towards the center of the Earth. The position in the y-direction is defined by Newton’s Kinematic Equation: Initial velocity And y-position Acceleration of gravity

  5. Last thing you need to know about is launch angles • You have to be able to use these basic trig formulas given one angle and the hypotenuse: v

  6. Some practice… Calculate and for each launch

  7. END OF PART 1 • Next time: Mapping projectiles in the computer lab.
