  2. Certificate of Educational AchievementPURPOSE • Alternative course of study to diploma. • Emphasizes practical academic, vocational and social skills. • May be pursued concurrently with diploma or as an alternative to diploma.

  3. Certificate of Educational AchievementAUTHORIZATION Ca. Ed. Code 56390 - 56392 authorizes school districts to award a CEA provided the student: • Completes course of study prescribed by school district. • Meets IEP goals. • Demonstrates satisfactory attendance. • Meets objectives of individualized transition plan.

  4. Certificate of Educational AchievementELIGIBILITY • All students in the Grossmont District are eligible for CEA. • Decision to pursue CEA is made by parent and student in consultation with student’s school guidance team (SST, 504 Team, or IEP Team).

  5. Certificate of Educational AchievementNOTIFICATION • Notification of Graduation Requirements provided at: • Initial GUHSD IEP. • Each subsequent annual review. • IEP team members, including parent and student, may request IEP meeting to review decision at anytime.

  6. Certificate of Educational AchievementRIGHTS Students who complete the CEA are eligible to: • Participate in graduation activities and ceremony. • Continue in high school through age 21or until completion of diploma, whichever comes first. • Enroll in community college at age 18.

  7. Certificate of Educational AchievementCOURSE OF STUDY Must meet the following minimum requirements: • Complete 220 high school credits.

  8. COURSE OF STUDY (Continued) • Complete the following academic requirements: • 20 credits of math, including Consumer Math. • 20 credits of English. • 15 credits of Social Science. • 10 credits of Science.

  9. COURSE OF STUDY (Continued) • Complete the following vocational requirements: • 5 credits of Technology Foundations (or equivalent). • Career Plan (GUHSD Check-Off Requirement). • 15 credits of vocational training. (See attachment) • 5 credits of Work Experience and/or On-Job Training.

COURSE OF STUDY (Continued) • Complete the following social skills requirements: • 5 credits of Life Management or On Your Own (or equivalent). • 30 hours of direct volunteer experience or completion of a community service research project. (See attachment) • 10 credits of civics/citizenship (American Government and Economics). • GUHSD First-Aid check-off requirement.

  11. COURSE OF STUDY (Continued) • Remaining 115 credits prescribed by IEP team. • CEA Key Functional Skills(see attachment)considered by IEP team in planning student’s course of study so as to provide successful transition from high school to adult world.

  12. Certificate of Educational AchievementImplementation • Students graduating after June 2007 are required to meet the requirements outlined in this presentation in order to receive a Certificate of Educational Achievement from the Grossmont Union High School District.
