  2. Protagonist - central person in a story & often referred to as the main character; faced with a conflict that must be resolved; may not always be admirable • Antagonist - the character that represents the opposition; obstacle that the protagonist must overcome

  3. Major-vital to the development and resolution of the conflict; plot and resolution of conflict revolves around these characters • Minor -complement the major characters; help move the plot events forward.

  4. Dynamic - changes over time; tend to be central characters • Static - does not change over time; personality does not transform or evolve

  5. Round- anyone who has a complex personality; often portrayed as a conflicted and contradictory person • Flat - opposite of a round character; notable for one kind of personality trait or characteristic. • Stock - types of characters who have become conventional or stereotypical through repeated use in particular types of stories; instantly recognizable (e.g. the femme fatale, the cynical but moral private eye, the mad scientist, the geeky boy with glasses, and the faithful sidekick)
