  1. “Healthy Yangtze” project Prof dr Toine Smits Radboud University Nijmegen The Netherlands

  2. “Live with water strategy”means: • Acknowledge that rivers need space • Making use of river basins without destroying the ecological functioning of rivers and lakes • Apply creativity and technology to adapt land use to natural dynamics.

  3. IRBM co-chairs: Prof. Chen Yiyu Prof. Toine Smits Meeting of the CCICED co-chairs with premier Wen Jiabao (October 2004) CCICED = China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development

  4. Healthy Yangtze project: • Phase 1: starting up and defining focal points of cooperation related to IRBM and the “Live with water” strategy. • Phase 2: strengthening of the cooperation on some specific topics.

  5. Healthy Yangtze: 1st deliverable • Raising awareness and capacity building • Virtual classroom with e-lectures.
