Advanced Abrasive Waterjet Technology for Precision Machining

The University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offers cutting-edge abrasive waterjet technology, a nonconventional mechanical removal process utilizing high-pressure fluid up to 400 MPa. This method employs high-velocity waterjets, both with and without abrasive particles, enabling the machining of virtually any material without structural alteration and keeping the cutting zone temperature under 70°C. Applications include precision cutting, microhole drilling, and engraving, making it ideal for producing EDM electrodes and fine powder. For inquiries, contact B. Jurisevic at lat@fs.uni-lj.si.

  1. Institution: University of Ljubljana Laboratory:Faculty of mechanical Engineering, Laboratory for Alternative Technologies Service / Technology offer:Abrasive waterjet and waterjet technology Description:Nonconventional mechanical removal process based on high pressure fluid technology with pressures up to 400 MPa. The main tool is high velocity waterjet with or without abrasive particles, depending on application. The workpiece material is removed due to erosion process. • Characteristics:Virtually any kind of material can be machined by this technology, creating a surface without structural alteration. The temperature of the cutting zone does not exceed 70 °C. The process can be utilized for cutting (thinnest section 50 µm, smallest width of cut app. 300 µm) small hole drilling (ratio t/d=20 and more), engraving, production of micro fluidics channels down to 100 µm in width. Utilisation:microcleaning and deburring, micro tooling for EDM, production of fine powder Example: Production of EDM electrodes for microfluids channels tooling, rubber and metal powder production, cutting components with small sections, thin layers removal Contact: B.
