  2. What is JURIST? • JURIST is a non-profit legal news and analysis site hosted by the Pitt School of Law • JURIST is operated by 60+ law student staffers • JURIST has a worldwide reach of more than 400K readers annually • Started in 1996 by Pitt Law Professor Bernard Hibbitts

  3. J What Else Happened In 1996? • Bill Clinton elected to a 2nd term • Prince Charles and Lady Di get divorced • Dow breaks 6,000 • Spice Girls top the charts with “Wannabe” • DVDs, eBay and Java launched • You started kindergarten

  4. Editorial Structure • JURIST news staff researches and reports on global legal developments. • JURIST commentary staff solicits and edits contributions from newsmakers, advocates and academics. • JURIST professional staff takes care of the behind-the-scenes

  5. Technical Structure • Dedicated server in California. • Host our own Movable Type instance • Front-end design done in-house over several generations of student staff • MT template architecture • PHP • RSS parsing • HTML/Javascript/Outdated CSS • LAMP

  6. So, what’s the problem? • Site design is outdated • Technologically • Visually • Poor mobile support • Poor support for revenue-generating activities

  7. How can you help? • We’d like to re-design JURIST for the 21st Century. • Mobile friendly • Ad capable • Graphic friendly • Payment processor agnostic • Documented codebase • Requirements gathering
