  3. The 8 Parts of Speech… • A noun is a person, place, thing or idea. • An adjective describes a noun. It tells how many, which one and what kind. • A pronoun takes the place of a noun. • A verb shows action or state of being. • An adverb describes verbs, adjectives and other adverbs. An adverb answers how, when, where, why and under what condition. • Conjunctions “hook” together words, phrases and/or clauses. • Prepositions are words that relate its object to another word in the sentence. • Interjections are words that show emotion.
