2. Course Selection Process • We will be sharing information about courses with you today.   • Don't be afraid to ask questions.  • The courses you request determines what courses are offered the following year.   CHOOSE CAREFULLY!! • There are no schedule changes (except for graduation requirements) • What Students Need to Do... • Review your transcript to see what courses you need (you can see it on Infinite Campus-- in the student portal) • Choose your 6 requests and 4 alternates (if you don't choose we choose for you) • Have your core area (English, math, science, social studies) teachers confirm your selection by signing your registration form • Have your parents sign your registration form • Students will be entering their requests in the computer labs starting next week. Please turn forms into your English teacher.

Credit Requirements Graduation Requirements: 22 Credits to Graduate • 4 English • 4 Math • 3 Science • 3 Social Studies • 1 PE • 1 CTE or Fine Art • 6 Electives AZ University Requirements:(In addition to DUSD) • 4 English • 4 Math (Alg 1-2, Geo 1-2, Alg 3-4 & 1   course with Alg 3-4 as a pre-req) • 3 Lab Science • 2 Social Studies (US and History and Economics) • 2 World Language (same language) • 1 Fine Arts See your course selection sheet for additional requirements.

4. Core Area Courses • English: Choose 1 of the following • English 7-8 • English 7-8 Dual Enrollment* • Students will need to have passed AIMS and the Rio Salado placement test • Students will be expected to enroll as a Dual Enrollment student through Rio Salado (financial aid opportunities will be available) • AP English Language and Composition* (Dual Enrollment Eligible– Offered with Honors Weight) • Social Studies: Choose 1 of the following • US/AZ Government and Principles of Economics • AP US Government and Politics

5. Core Area Classes Science Physics 1-2 - study of motion, forces, energy, and energy conservation    Prerequisites: Chemistry 1-2, concurrent enrollment in Algebra 3-4 or higher Physics 1-2 Honors*- study of motion, forces, energy, and energy conservation    Prerequisites: Chemistry 1-2, concurrent enrollment in Algebra 3-4 or higher Anatomy & Physiology 1-2*- structures and functions of the human body in health and disease Prerequisites: Chemistry 1-2 (Dual Enrollment Eligible) AP Biology 1-2*: Designed to offer students topics that are covered in a freshman Biology course at the university level. Prerequisites: Chemistry 1-2

6. Core Area Classes Science Continued Environmental Science: This course examines the relationships of living organisms to both living and non-living components of ecosystems. Human impact on natural systems will also be explored. Pre-requisites: Biology GeoSpaceScience: In this class, students will study geochemical cycles, internal and external energy in the earth system, origin and evolution of the earth and the universe. Pre-requisites: Biology Forensics 1-2:  This class provide the skills and background to apply the principles of forensic science. THIS CLASS DOES NOT COUNT AS A LAB SCIENCE. 

7. 9. World Language Spanish Spanish 1-2: (No prior Spanish experience) Spanish 3-4: Spanish 5-6H: Dual Enrollment eligible course AP Spanish: Dual Enrollment eligible course/ AP Exam Spanish for Native Speakers - fluent Spanish speaker • All world language courses include speaking, reading, writing and listening. • 2.0 credits of the same language are required for university acceptance.

10. World Language American Sign Language 1-2 • This class will introduce the fundamentals of American Sign Language used by the Deaf Community including the basic vocabulary, syntax, finger spelling and grammatical non-manual signals. • This course will focus on communicative competence. It will develop gestural skills as foundation for American Sign Language.

11. Physical Education Lifetime Sports Requires successful completion of Boys/Girls PE or Performing Arts • 10th - 12th grade co-ed course Topics: Pickle ball, lacrosse, golf, archery, field hockey, horseshoes, bocce ball and fitness. Aerobics Requires successful completion of Boys/Girls PE or Performing Arts •   10th - 12th grade co-ed course Topics: Aerobics, P90X, Tae Bo, Pilates, Fitness Journals, etc Physical Conditioning Requires successful completion of Boys/Girls PE or Performing Arts • 10th - 12th grade co-ed course Class is a combination of weight training and conditioning concepts Advanced Physical Conditioning Requires successful completion of Physical Conditioning • 11th and 12th grade co-ed course. Class is a combination of weight training and conditioning concepts

13. Visual Arts • Intro to Art: drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking– elements and principles • Drawing 1-2*: applying skills used in Intro to Art and adding new techniques *intro to art is a pre-req • Drawing 3-4*: portfolio development *drawing 1-2 is a pre-req

14. Ceramics • Ceramics 1-2: covers basic hand building and glaze techniques through a variety of sculptural and functional objects • Ceramics 3-4*: more in-depth hand building techniques, exploration of surface quality and introduction to wheel throwing (*Ceramics 1-2 is a pre-req) • Ceramics 5-6*: wheel throwing

15. Dance • Beginning Dance • Intermediate Dance • Advanced Dance • Students must complete the courses in sequence or have permission of the instructor to skip levels • Courses covers jazz, tap, ballet, modern, hip hop and choreography • Students have multiple opportunities for performance

16. Choir • Mixed Choir: Introductory class • Concert Choir: Traveling performance group. Students have opportunities to compete for ratings

17. Instrumental • Marching Band/Concert Band: students have performance requirements and opportunities • Concert Percussion: (Drum Line) students have performance requirements and opportunities • Guitar: students have an opportunity to play a variety of styles of music. Performance opportunities • Piano1-2: learn to play the piano while developing your knowledge of music theory • Piano 3-4: an intermediate/advanced piano course

Arts and Communication • Audio/Visual Technologies • TV/Broadcast Production 1-2 (9,10,11,12) • Produce DHS “news” reports, public service announcements (PSAs) & short video features • TV/Media Productions 1-2 Must have passed TV/Broadcasting 1-2 or Digital Communications 1-2 • Visual Effects Class - short videos, films, and shows for television • Create video projects for campus events • Be the “official” videographers for all DHS sports and have videos broadcast on AIA365.com • Yearbook! (Graphic Arts Production 1-2 through 5-6) • Create the only “project” that lasts . . . and lasts: our YEARBOOK! • Become a journalist who loves to GET STORIES FROM PEOPLE, MAKE AMAZING PHOTOS, WRITE FUN STORIES, AND DESIGN PROFESSIONAL LAYOUTS.

21. Arts and Communication • Digital Communications 1-2 (No Pre-req) (open to 9,10,11,12) • Explore digital photography and photo editing (Adobe Photoshop); create your own photos/photo art and build your portfolio • Use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign to create original art and professional layouts • Learn video production and editing • Project-based, “hands on” learning • Photo Imaging 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 (No Pre-Req) • Learn to tell your story with photographs using “pro” equipment • Make great images on purpose . . . not by accident! • Learn digital videography • Become the personal & event photographer for real-world clients • Earn Adobe Photoshop certification!  • Get Dual Enrollment college credits!

22. Auto Technology • Auto and Engine 1-2An introduction to automotive systems covering the basics in brakes, steering /suspension, electronics, and engine performance. Employability skills are also embedded in the core curriculum. • Auto and Engine 3-4 & 5-6 (2 years) Pre-requisite: Auto 1-2 and/or Auto 3-4 This phase is focused on preparing students to pass the Arizona End-of-Program and ASE certification tests .This course will identify career opportunities related to the Automotive Industry. Employability skills are embedded in the core curriculum and include career-related organizations (SkillsUSA)

23. Business and Marketing • School Store Operations 1-2 (No Pre-Req) Overview of marketing Control and operate the “Hot Spot” School Store Dual Enrollment (3 College Credits) • Computer Applications (No Pre-Req) Personal and Business knowledge of all Microsoft Office software applications. • Money Management for Business and Personal Use 1-2 (No Pre-Req) Introduction to ALL Microsoft Office products Projects will include simulations of real-life business and marketing applications of the Microsoft Office software. • Entrepreneurship Honors (No Pre-Req– Money Management Recommended) Owning, operating, and marketing your own business • Marketing Management School Store 3-4 Honors (Pre-Req: School Store) Preparation for career in Marketing Manager and assisting in the day to day operations of the School Store • Marketing Specialization 5-6/DECA (DHS’ Business Club) This course is for students who have completed School Store Management 3–4 and want to use their marketing skills to create written research projects used for DECA competition.

24.
