Features of a skilled performance • A skilled performance is about your ability to be in the correct place at the correct time and be able to select the correct technique, making it look as effortless as possible to meet the performance demands. • A skilled performer will show a vast range of qualities in their performance. These qualities are: • Technical • Physical • Skill • Mental

  5. What is a skilled performer? (model performer) • Key words: Technical, Mental, Physical, Skill • Performs skills with efficient and effective technique • Management of emotions controlled • Confident • Makes appropriate decisions under pressure. • Movements of skills is automatic and controlled • Performed with ease of economy • Wide repertoire of skills • Execute skills at correct time with control/fluency/balance. • Few unforced errors

  6. Benefits of using a Model Performer • Clear picture of what skill involves • Identify Strengths and weaknesses. • Compare performance • Monitor improvements • Clear picture of fluency/control/timing • Motivation to perform at similar level • Set goals and targets

The Skilled Volleyball player… • Technical Qualities of Performance Control and accuracy Fluency in Performance A model performer will possess these technical qualities which will be evident in their performance. A model performer will be able to play the dig with control and accuracy into the setter. The model performer is able to do so by making the correct shot selection with enough time to get into position to play the ball. A skilled performance will also display a high level of fluency in the execution of a range of Skills. A model performer will be able to make each skill look as though it has been performed effortlessly.

  8. The Skilled Volleyball Player… • Physical Qualities of performance Power Suppleness A model performer will possess these physical qualities which will be evident in their performance. A model performer requires power to play a spike. They need power in their legs to jump high enough to get above the ball and power in their arms to play the ball hard and fast making it hard for their opponent to return the shot. A model performer will also require suppleness in their shoulders to be able to play an overhand serve. They must have a high level of shoulder flexibility as they need to swing their arm from behind their head and around to the front.
