  4. Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2015 • 40 or 47 credits, depending on diploma. • Passing Score on the Core 40 End of Course Assessments in Algebra and English 10. • Core 40 Diploma • Core 40 with Academic Honors Diploma

  5. English 8 credits Math 6 credits: Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II or a third year if student received Algebra I credit in 8th grade. Science 6 credits 2 credits Biology 2 credits from chemistry/physics/or int. chem/physics 2 credits elective science Social Studies 6 credits: 2 in U.S. History, 1 Government, 1 Economics, 2 World History or 2 World Geography or 2 AP World History Physical Education 2 credits Health 1 credit Computers 1 credit Electives 10 credits Core 40 End of Course Tests Core 40 Diploma 40 credits

ACADEMIC HONORS DIPLOMA-TOTAL OF 47 CREDITS • Core 40 requirements PLUS • 2 additional math credits • 6 credits of World Language in one language OR 4 credits each in 2 different languages • 2 credits in Fine Arts such as music or art ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: • Two Advanced Placement courses and exams • 6 college credits or one AP course and 3 college credits • SAT score of 1200 on combined math and verbal or 26 ACT composite AND: • No grade lower than a C- in required areas • 3.00 GPA by the end of the senior year.

  8. Some reminders about AP Courses • Weighted courses • Require summer reading • Require the AP exam at end of course • College level instruction • College credit possible • High correlation with college success for students with AP experience

THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION WAIVER • May opt out of one semester of PE for each FCHS sponsored activity or sport. • If opting out of PE, should choose another class to replace PE (many students choose weights) • If replacement class is not weights, then students will need to complete fitness logs and fitness checks in addition to completing their sport’s season in order to earn their PE credit.

  26. Preparing for Life After High School: WHAT YOU NEED TO BE DOING NOW • As a side: By Nov. 6, 2010 I.U. had received over 23,000 applications and approx. 7,300 are usually admitted. Check individual requirements of colleges. • Schedule rigorous classes. • Research scholarships • Check college websites for summer programs • Start a resume • Visit college campuses this spring and summer. Check websites for visit programs

  27. WHERE WILL THE GOOD JOBS BE?ALL CAREERS RELATED TO S Science and Health Care T Technology E Engineering M Mathematics And they all require education and/or training beyond high school. Note: Each year 950,000 engineers graduate from China & India combined compared to 70,000 in the U.S. -In 2006, more people in the U.S. graduated with degrees in sports exercise than in electrical engineering.
